School profile

The International School of Belgrade

Full IB continuum. Students who do not take the full IB Diploma take IB courses, usually at standard level, and earn credits towards an American high school diploma. The school does not mention Advanced Placement.

Founded in 1948 as the Foreign School, according to the school's own history, and renamed the International School of Belgrade in 1952.

The school's own homepage gives its age range as 3-18 in its key statistics, and names its youngest stage Early Years (PreK-Kinder). Pre-Kindergarten at 3 is a graded stage inside the IB Primary Years Programme, not a nursery. Source: the school's own page, read 25 August 2026.

The school's homepage gives 47 nationalities; its FAQ gives 54. We publish the FAQ figure.

Where it is

Bus routes cover Dedinje, Senjak, the diplomatic area in Banovo Brdo, parts of Novi Beograd and parts of downtown. A new route is created when at least seven students live in the same city area. Every bus has a dedicated monitor. The price is not published.

Before school age

ISB takes children from 3 into its Early Years, from Pre-Kindergarten. Pre-Kindergarten at 3 is a graded stage inside the IB Primary Years Programme, not a nursery.

It appears alongside the standalone kindergartens on our kindergartens and preschools page, which is the one place in this guide where both kinds of answer sit together.

After school

ISB publishes eight activities on its own site – soccer, basketball, volleyball, choir, Model United Nations, math counts, speech and debate, knowledge bowl. Their page is the current list; ours is dated.

These sit alongside the city's own clubs on our after-school activities page, which is the only place the two are listed together.

What the fee covers

ISB publishes a full fee schedule by year group. We do not reproduce fee figures; the school's own page is the source, so what follows is the structure of the cost rather than the amounts.

Tuition is charged in US dollars and the capital fee in euros – a genuine dual-currency structure, not a transcription error. Pre-Kindergarten pays no capital fee.

Billed on top. School bus (optional, charged on top of tuition).

One-off charges. Application (non-refundable); Registration (non-refundable); Capital fee, new student (Kindergarten to Grade 12 only – Pre-K pays none); Capital fee, returning student (Kindergarten to Grade 12 only – Pre-K pays none); EAL one-time fee; Payment plan fee (individual payers).

Discounts. 50% loyalty discount on the annual capital fee for self-paying families after five continuous years.

Uniform. None. The school states there is no uniform or standard dress.

Not addressed anywhere public: Lunch, Textbooks, Exam fees, Trips, Bus price.

The school's own fee page: www.isb.rs, checked 24 August 2026.

Getting in

Rolling – the school admits year-round, subject to a place being free.

Deadlines. None. Ongoing intake, subject to seat availability.

Decision time. Minimum three weeks from a complete application

Testing. Taster day on campus, or online cognitive testing for applicants abroad. DRA, EAL, MAP, CAT and ALIS used as appropriate.

Age cut-off. Required age must be reached before 1 September

Quota. Enrolment of students of a single nationality is limited to 35% of total enrolment at each grade level (Category 1 and scholarship students exempt).

Residency. Students must reside with their parents or legal guardians in Serbia.

Admission priority order.

  1. Dependants of US Government-sponsored and contract employees, dependants of faculty, and current students
  2. Non-permanent residents of Serbia
  3. Permanent residents of Serbia

Special educational needs

The school states it is “usually able to provide up to 150 minutes per week of additional support in either EAL or LS”. It does not say whether that ceiling applies per area or across both together.

Beyond that, an offer may depend on additional support the family pays for; the school employs the teacher and passes on the cost. Learning differences must be disclosed at application or acceptance may be withdrawn. Limited-mobility applications are difficult to accommodate because of Lower School accessibility.
