What the fee covers

DSB publishes a full fee schedule by year group. We are asking every school to confirm its current figures and agree to publication before we reproduce them, so what follows is the structure of the cost rather than the amounts.

Inside the fee. Textbooks and materials.

Billed on top. Lunch (invoiced separately by the caterer); Field trips and excursions; Optional summer care.

One-off charges. Registration, Kindergarten / Vorschule; Registration, Grundschule; Registration, Gymnasium.

Discounts. Sibling: 10% for the second child, 20% for the third and each further child.

Payment plans. Three instalments: 15 September, 1 November, 15 January; Ten monthly instalments September to June, at an extra EUR 100 per year.

Getting in

Conditional — entry depends on language competence as well as age.

Testing. German native speakers sit a school aptitude test around March/April. Non-native German speakers additionally sit a language assessment (Sprachfeststellung).

Age cut-off. Vorschule: fifth birthday by 31 July. Grundschule Grade 1: sixth birthday by 31 July.

Language conditions. Vorschule requires non-native German speakers to have completed at least one year of kindergarten. Grade 1 requires at least two years of pre-school (one kindergarten plus one Vorschule). Transfer students take a language test.

Documents. Interessentenbogen, birth certificate, prior school reports. Kindergarten children must be toilet-trained.

Nationality. No nationality bar. The gate is German language competence, not passport.
