Are Belgrade international schools accredited?
Almost all say they are. What that word is carrying in each case, and which registers a parent can actually read.

Every school here states an accreditation, and almost a third of those statements could not be checked against anything. Across the 20 schools in this guide we recorded 40 separate accreditation claims. Of these, 28 are backed by a named body with a date, a decision number or an inspection; 12 are not. One school publishes three accrediting logos in its footer and no accreditation statement anywhere in its text. One states an IB World School number that did not resolve on the IB's own register. And the structural problem behind all of it: only two of the accrediting bodies named in this guide, the IB and Cambridge, publish a register a parent can read, and Cambridge's lists legal entities rather than schools, so most claims rest on the school's own word whether they are true or not.

Each line is recorded in this guide's own dataset with the date it was read. The wording describes the evidence available to a reader from outside, not the quality of the school.
Why so little of this can be checked
This is the finding that matters most, and it applies to every school on the page equally.
Two registers in this field can be read. The International Baccalaureate's is how the authorisation dates in this guide were confirmed, and it is how we know that one published IB World School number does not resolve. Cambridge International's school finder works only in a full browser; read that way on 23 September 2026, it listed nineteen Cambridge centres in Serbia, each under the name of the legal entity that holds the registration rather than the school's own name. Everything else is closed, and not because the schools hide anything. ECIS publishes no public member directory. The CIS directory could not be read. Both COBIS directory addresses return an error. When we went back in September the IB's register would not answer either, so even a readable register is not reliably available.
So a Cambridge claim in this city can be checked, but only once you know which legal entity holds it, and until then a reader should treat "we are an accredited Cambridge school" as a statement by the school rather than as a verified fact. That is not a reason to distrust it. It is a reason to ask for the centre number and the name on the certificate, and to check both.
One centre number, two registrations
A single Cambridge centre number can carry more than one registration, and they are different things.
EDUCA International School is the example in this guide. It states that the foundation which owns and runs it, Fondacija “Obrazovanje za Srbiju”, holds centre number EA104 as a Cambridge International School and, separately, as a Cambridge Professional Development Centre, both since 5 March 2024, and Cambridge's own school finder lists the centre under the foundation's name. The first is a school registration. The second is for qualifications for teachers and school leaders, not for children.
Neither tells a parent which Cambridge programmes the pupils follow. EDUCA's own pages describe Finnish pedagogy and the school's own framework, and do not say which Cambridge programmes sit alongside it. That is the question worth asking any school that says "Cambridge", and it is the third one below.
The three questions that settle it
Three questions, in writing, before signing anything. Each one converts a claim into something you can check.
- "What is your centre number with that body, and may I see the certificate?" Cambridge centres, IB World Schools and examination centres all carry identifiers. A school that has one will give it without hesitation.
- "When were you last inspected, by whom, and is the report public?" Only one school in this guide can answer that with a British-style inspection report. The French and German schools can answer it with their own national processes. Most cannot answer it at all, which is itself an answer.
- "Which of your programmes does this accreditation cover?" The example above is the reason. Accreditation of a teacher-training centre, of an examination centre and of a taught curriculum are three different things.

Questions families ask
Are Belgrade international schools accredited?
All twenty schools in this guide state at least one accreditation. Across all of them we recorded 40 separate claims, of which 28 are backed by a named body with a date, a decision number or an inspection, and 12 are not.
Can I check a Belgrade school's accreditation myself?
Sometimes. The International Baccalaureate publishes a register, and it is how the IB authorisation dates in this guide were confirmed, though it would not answer when we went back in September. ECIS has no public member directory, the CIS directory could not be read, and both COBIS directory addresses return an error. Cambridge International's school finder works only in a full browser and lists each centre under the legal entity that holds the registration, so you need that name before you can find the school. Ask the school for its centre number and to see the certificate instead.
What does it mean when a school says it is Cambridge accredited?
It can mean several different things: an examination centre, an authorisation to teach a Cambridge curriculum, or a Professional Development Qualifications centre, which offers qualifications for teachers rather than for children. Ask which one, and for the centre number.
Which Belgrade school has a British inspection?
British International School Belgrade, registered with British Schools Overseas under URN 152207 and inspected over three days on 12 to 14 May 2025. No other school in this guide is inspected under a British scheme.
Is a school without accreditation a bad school?
Not necessarily, and this page does not say so. Accreditation is evidence a reader can check from outside, and its absence means you have to look at the school yourself rather than take a mark on a website as a substitute. Visit, sit in on a lesson, and ask the three questions above.
Does Serbian ministry recognition mean the certificate is valid?
Ministry recognition is what makes a school's certificates valid in Serbia, and most schools here state it. It is separate from any foreign accreditation, and it does not by itself say anything about which international curriculum a school may teach.
