Founded in 1948 as the Foreign School, according to the school's own history, and renamed the International School of Belgrade in 1952.

Bus routes cover Dedinje, Senjak, Diplomatic area in Banovo Brdo, parts of New Belgrade, parts of Downtown. A new route is created when at least seven students live in the same city area. Every bus has a dedicated monitor. The price is not published.

What the fee covers

ISB publishes a full fee schedule by year group. We are asking every school to confirm its current figures and agree to publication before we reproduce them, so what follows is the structure of the cost rather than the amounts.

Billed on top. School bus (optional, charged on top of tuition).

One-off charges. Application (non-refundable); Registration (non-refundable); Capital fee, new student (Kindergarten to Grade 12 only — Pre-K pays none); Capital fee, returning student (Kindergarten to Grade 12 only — Pre-K pays none); EAL one-time fee; Payment plan fee (individual payers).

Discounts. 50% loyalty discount on the annual capital fee for self-paying families after five continuous years.

Uniform. None. The school states there is no uniform or standard dress.

Getting in

Rolling — the school admits year-round, subject to a place being free.

Deadlines. None. Ongoing intake, subject to seat availability.

Decision time. Minimum three weeks from a complete application

Testing. Taster day on campus, or online cognitive testing for applicants abroad. DRA, EAL, MAP, CAT and ALIS used as appropriate.

Age cut-off. Required age must be reached before 1 September

Quota. Enrolment of students of a single nationality is limited to 35% of total enrolment at each grade level (Category 1 and scholarship students exempt).

Residency. Students must reside with their parents or legal guardians in Serbia.

Admission priority order.

1. Dependents of U.S. Government-sponsored and contract employees, dependents of faculty, and current students
2. Non-permanent residents of Serbia
3. Permanent residents of Serbia

Special educational needs

Up to 150 minutes per week of additional support, counted across EAL and learning support together rather than 150 minutes of each.

Beyond that, an offer may depend on additional support the family pays for; the school employs the teacher and passes on the cost. Learning differences must be disclosed at application or acceptance may be withdrawn. Limited-mobility applications are difficult to accommodate because of Lower School accessibility.

What stands out

• Founded 1948 as the Foreign School — the oldest English-medium international school in Belgrade
• Board partly appointed by the U.S. Ambassador, and an admissions priority order that reflects it
• One of two private schools in Belgrade running the full IB continuum
• Publishes what it can and cannot do for a child needing additional support, which no other school here does
